Winter Lawn Care

Hello. Welcome to the first installment of Sparky’s Advice. This season I will focus on tips and suggestions to help prepare your lawn, and soil for the winter months.

Ideally, it’s best to start with winter preparations in the late fall around September with weed treatment and fertilizations. You could purchase an all-in-one fertilizer with weed killer, or conversely, treat the weeds separately then apply a strict fertilizer only, shortly after.

However, be sure to buy a fertilizer specifically for winter , since it helps keep weeds and moss at bay, while at the same time promoting strong root growth and healthy color. It does this by releasing the iron and fertilizer over an extended period of time — something that is needed for the soggy Winters of the Pacific Northwest.

Near the end of the fall season, lower the height of the mower in order to cut the lawn lower, so the ground does not retain as much moisture and has every opportunity to dry.

Hello. Welcome to the second installment of Sparky’s Advice. This season I will focus on tips and suggestions to help prepare your lawn, soil and general tips for cleanup for the spring months.

Ideally, it’s best to start spring preparations in the late winter around the beinging of March with weed treatment and fertilizations. You could purchase an all-in-one fertilizer with weed killer, or conversely, treat the weeds separately then apply a strict fertilizer only, shortly after.

However, be sure to buy a fertilizer specifically for Spring that has moss-out in it, since it helps keep weeds and moss at bay, while at the same time promoting strong root growth and healthy color. It does this by releasing the iron and fertilizer over an extended period of time — something that is needed for the soggy Springs of the Pacific Northwest.

Near the begging of the Spring season, keep the height of the mower low in order to cut the lawn lower so the ground does not retain as much moisture and has every opportunity to dry.

While preparing the lawn for Spring you should also start with preparations of the flowerbeds, First removing all the weeds manually and then placing cassoron, in all flowerbeds. By placing the cassoron in the flowerbeds it prevents the weeds form growing.

Hello. Welcome to Sparky’s Advice on Thatching and reseeding. This season I will focus on tips and suggestions on how to, and when to, thatch and reseed your lawn.

Ideally, when thatching here are some steps to follow: first mow the entire yard. second thatch the entire yard using a power rake to extract all the dead grass and moss( use power rake if only the yard is more the four lawn mowers in length, if not, use a hand thatcher) . third use the lawn mower to pick up all the dead grass and moss pulled from the thatcher. forth after picking up all the moss and dead grass then spread the grass seed keep in mind only 90% of grass seed germanized after 21 days. fifth you should reseed areas that are bare. for best results stay off grass until your grass has grown in completely.

It’s best to start thatching When you have a few good dry days in a row. the earliest you want to thatch your yard is the being of march and the latest that you should thatch is the early fall (September), note be sure to buy a fertilizer specifically for spring, or fall since it helps keep moss at bay, while at the same time promoting strong root growth and healthy color. It does this by releasing the iron and fertilizer over an extended period of time
